| 1 | This was the day when 'The Good Lord voiced his displeasure about non-standard 87s going to Edinburgh Waverley,' as anyone on 1Z87 will tell you. On 101's first ever visit to the Waverley, Craig L, Dave C, Laurie, Wayne (Arsenal top again!), Dave W and Chris C (back row) stand, whilst Druid, Gary MF (does not stand for m*****f*****!) , Tim R and MTD test their knees out by crouching on the front row next to the blue monster! 24th August 1996... | 87 people and seminars | (769) |
| 2 | Not one of the greatest moments in 87-bashing! I won't forget the 23rd June 1999 in a hurry, as this was the morning that 87027 'Wolf of Badenoch' went into the rear of 142008/003 at Winsford South Junction, whilst working 1S47 0630 Euston to Glasgow Central. This shows the aftermath, but as with most things, it could have been far worse...... | Class 87 variety | (705) |
| 3 | I really did do some work once! Called into action due to staff sickness, I did the honours in the Buffet on a Summer Saturday 'Royal Scot,' with 87007 'City of Manchester' performing on 21st August 1999. Good job for Virgin it was an 87! | 87 people and seminars | (530) |
| 4 | There was nothing like a good old Sunday stroll at Oxenholme LD, whilst 1S57 stood waiting 'time.' Steve D inaugurated the concept, but it became a common feature (when the pesky train actually produced!) Here Tim R, Craig L, Dave C and Steve D himself pose alongside 87034 'William Shakespeare' after stretching their legs on Sunday 07th June 1998. To the left lurks an EWS can on Heaven knows what! | 87 people and seminars | (466) |
| 5 | This was in the same sequence of workings as the other picture at Euston, with 101 pictured here before a wild run to the West Mids on 1G31 1445 Euston to Wolverhampton HL, on Sunday 20th September 1998. The intriguing line-up of specimens reads thus:- Back row - Druid, Paul B, Andy M, Chris C, Daniel S, Andy H, Paul R, Darryl M, Paul W and at the front - SV, Wayne W and Tim R. | 87 people and seminars | (454) |

A keen Railway Enthusiast and Preston North End fan, I have spent my adult life (and a fair bit before that) travelling behind and photographing Class 87's, with 87029 'Earl Marischal' being my personal favourite.... Even with the wholesale withdrawal of the Fleet from it's intended workings, my interest has waned very little.
I have worked in the Network Rail Control in Manchester since September 2006, having moved from the Control of Virgin West Coast where I had hours of fun playing with my full size train set!
I am very passionate about the promotion of railways and public transport and am totally anti-car. The more road charging etc that can be brought in to reduce the menace on our roads, the better! I accept that some people need a car to get around for various reasons (disability, employment in essential services etc), but I do believe that upwards of 75% of car journeys could be made by other means. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who sit in their cars moaning about the traffic when they are contributing to it!
